Mairega Clarke who currently attends Carl Albert College a Juco located in Poteau, Oklahoma has given a verbal commitment to Head Coach Scott Cross of the University of Texas Arlington Mavericks in the Sun Belt School. Clarke had a phenomenal freshman year where he averaged 18.6 PPG, 5.2 RPG and 2.6 APG. He also, shot 49% from the field and 82% from the free throw line earning him 3rd Team All Conference in Region II. Clarke is expected to have even a bigger season has he’s surrounded by more talent and returns to Vikings with a chip on his shoulder this season. Clarke led the Vikings to 2-1 record at the Jerry Mullen Preseason Jamboree in Dallas a couple of weeks ago.
“I’m feeling great, I can now focus on earning my Associates Degree and the season. I just love the school and the environment, being in Poteau, Oklahoma allowed me to adjust and adapt to being away from home” Clarke Said.
Clarke held offers from St. Francis College(NY), Louisiana Lafayette, Carl Bakersfield and Niagara University(NY). However, one official visit was all it took to sell him on the idea of not taking his final 4 official visits. “I miss home and as much as I would of loved to come back to play in front of my family and friends UT Arlington was the best fit for me. The Sun Belt is an up and coming conference where NBA Scouts are now paying attention to, ever since Elfrid Peyton from Louisiana Lafayette was selected as a lottery pick in NBA draft.”
