Salief Lewis according to, Neil Potter, Head Coach at Hunter College HS is getting better every time that he steps onto the basketball court. The 6-4 Sophomore has been a pleasant surprise after playing with New York Based AAU Club Raising Champions Elite.
“After playing on the JV team last year and us losing a bunch of seniors especially big man Khadeem Knibbs. I wasn’t sure how he would respond not only playing but also starting as a Sophomore at the varsity level” Coach Potter said.
Salief has responded great to the challenges of excelling academically at one of top High School in NYC but, also showing some strong numbers thus far on court. “It just shows how much my hard work has paid off said Lewis” averaging 13PPG and 11RPG for the 5-3 Hunter College HS Hawks.
On Monday, December 17, 2012 he scored 27 Points, Grabbed 14 Rebounds and had 3 Blocks while leading HHS to a 15 point win over Seward Park HS. He’s still growing and has not yet come into his own. Salief has a very high ceiling with endless potential as he continues to develop as a player.
In addition to playing basketball, Salief , also runs cross country and is a member of the chess team at Hunter College HS. This past summer he split time playing AAU basketball and did community service work as a volunteer with a group of students that traveled to Columbia through 92nd Street YMCA. “Salief is a well-rounded individual that is committed to excellence whether it be academics, basketball, chess, cross country or volunteering his time to helping other people less fortunate than his self. He always gives it his all” said Hasani Stewart Program Director for Raising Champions Elite.
