Raising Champions Advanced but Came Up Short In Providence

Raising Champions, who were easy winners in their first game on Friday night, also made quick work on Saturday against House of Hoops (NJ). Amdy Fall (Wings ‘11) was a force on the boards and was active on both ends of the court, and the 3 guard play of Cavon Baker (Thomas Edison ‘11), Will Davis (Holy Cross ‘12), and Marquise Moore (Holy Cross ‘12), outmatched and outclassed their opponents from Jersey. A 74-34 win, gave Raising Champions a 2-0 pool record, and sent them through to the Gold Bracket as well.

Raising Champions had won their 2 pool games by a combined 76 points, and the Pa Playaz were without their star, Villanova commit Ryan Arcidiacono (Neshaminy, PA), who was out nursing a rib cage injury. It seemed the stars were aligned for a big win for the Johnny Rodriguez coached group, but they came up flat in the game. Amdy Fall, who looked so dominant in the pool play games, found it hard to get off clean shots here, and the guards struggled to find driving lanes. Brendan Kilpatrick (Malvern Prep, PA) and Arron Goodman (Council Rock North, PA) each used there wingspans to hurt Raising Champions on the glass, and just careless play overall hurt the NYC based team. It was a tough 54-46 loss. Fall led Raising Champions with 8, as no one was able to get going. Goodman led all scorers with the Pa Playaz with 19.
